課程概述

This course provides graduate students with a systematic treatment of many of the major issues and problems encountered in the conceptualization, measurement, and modeling of social theories. Research design, model building and specification analysis of social survey, causal inferences from non-experimental data, and report writing are all emphasized in this course.

課程要求
上課要求:

1. 所有上課的同學都需要按照進度課前閱讀指定的專書或研究論文(R1-R9),並於上課時繳交閱讀心得(R1)或依下列各問題撰寫研究論文(R4-R9)的閱讀紀要和閱讀心得。紀要的頁數不限,但是內容要涵蓋下列十項要點。有星號(*)的研究論文為optional readings,同學可以自己選擇閱讀,但不需繳交閱讀紀要。

(1). 作者為什麼要進行這個研究?
(2). 研究的問題和研究目的分別是什麼?
(3). 作者選擇了哪些詮釋理論?這些理論的大致內容如何?
(4). 研究的主要假設有哪些?
(5). 研究的樣本和資料來源如何?
(6). 研究的重要變項有哪些?(請區分自變項和依變項及控制變項)
(7). 作者採用哪些統計分析方法來處理研究資料?
(8). 此研究有哪些重要研究發現?
(9). 你對這篇研究整體的評論如何?
(10). 你對這篇論文閱讀後的心得。

2. 上課同學要參與課堂的報告提問和討論。
3. 課程的後段(數量方法部分)會有實際的資料分析,所有上課同學都要繳交所指定的作業。
4. 期末考為one-week take-home exam。
5. 課程成績計算: 平時作業40%,期末考佔50%,課堂報告和討論參與佔10%。
